Gitanjali Fatehpuria is an Indian fashion designer and founder of Elysian by Gitanjali. Born and raised in Kolkata, she did her schooling from La Martineire for Girls and college from JD Birla Institute. In 1999, she founded Gitanjali Designs, an apparel export company, along with her husband. She took the international market by storm with her impressive design swatches and expanded from London to Paris, different parts of Europe including Belgium, Brussels, followed by Japan and Australia. She dons many feathers in her cap, working with the likes of haute couturiers namely Christian Lacroix, Franck Sorbier and Tsumori Chisato
Having travelled abroad, seeing the changing trends, the seed of an idea of starting her own label was born, resulting in the launch of her flagship store Elysian by Gitanjali in Kolkata. Despite of having no formal education in designing, she has a deep understanding of the psyche of the fashion world and it reflects in her stylish, innovative, modern and awe-inspiring collections. Her work stands true to the Greek inspired word “Elysian”; beautiful or creative, divinely inspired; peaceful and perfect
Bengal’s supreme craftsmanship and fine work quality has always inspired her and her collection reflects this love and admiration. Her creations have a certain panache, modernity and convenience which makes the clothes very easy to drape yet being cost affective and catering to women of every age group. Her versatility is shown in her collections with her ability to infuse traditional aesthetics and heritage with international tailored silhouette, thus, making every Indian women feel like a princess in the midst of the urban Indian chaos.
Presently, Elysian byGitanjali retails from their Flagship Store at Panditya Terrace, Kolkata ; Anas Dokadia, a Multi Designer Store in Colaba, Mumbai , The Verandah, a Multi Designer store in Bangalore and online through Pernia’s Pop Up Shop. Going forward, Gitanjali plans to make her label – Elysian by Gitanjali very accessible by spreading its foot print across the length and breadth of the Country and neighbouring countries too.
