People often talk about ‘fashion’ and ‘art’ as alien and unrelated concepts. Fashion designers ‘design’ clothes following a certain trend, thereby giving market demands precedence over ‘art’. That is where I, Avishek Naiya come into the picture. A recipient of the Governor’s Award from the Government Art College and a visiting faculty of INIFD, doesn’t quite define me. Starting my career in 2012, I have strived to bridge these concepts of ‘design’ and ‘art’. The subsequent creations have resulted in the manifestation of my vision, which I derive from Mother Nature. Since earliest existence of humans in this planet, nature has been responsible in preserving our forward march by giving order to chaos. “Giving order to chaos”, that is the tagline for my creations. Materials, textiles come together in my workshop to not only create ‘designed’ clothes. They tell stories that are worn to leave behind an impression. People not only adorn my creations but inherit rejoice and leave behind a legacy, be it in a party or elsewhere.
